Meet the Founder of `stack8s`
Dr. Jeremy Murray - Founder and CEO of stack8s.ai

Jeremy Murray is a serial entrepreneur who has built his career on turning bold ideas into real-world innovations. Raised in a poor neighborhood in Lahore, Pakistan, he grew up with limited means but unlimited determination. At 19, he came to the UK after getting accepted to study Electronics Engineering in Wales. To survive, he worked whist studying seven days a week, often stretching a single can of baked beans across meals. Living through hardship gave him a deep empathy for others and a globally minded leadership style rooted in perseverance.

After graduating with first-class honours and distinction in Electronics Engineering, Jeremy was awarded a full scholarship to pursue a PhD in Semiconductors at the University of Edinburgh. Just three months into his doctorate, he published his first paperm on a fast robotic image recorgnition technique for silicon defect detection and was invited to present at a prestigious conference in Hiroshima, Japan. Over the course of his PhD, he went on to publish more than a dozen peer-reviewed papers and secure three patents while also contributing to a deep-tech startup, a spin out from Siemens AG. To complement his scientific expertise, Jeremy earned an MBA from Edinburgh Business School, equipping him with strong business acumen. Early in his career, he worked as a Process & Application Engineer, refining advanced materials and developing AI-driven processes, before progressing to Head Program Manager, where he scaled high-impact projects in the emerging field of IoT and AI/ML modelling.

Eager to bring his research and industry experience into a startup environment, Jeremy co-founded Aceso Analytics in Oslo. Driven by a commitment to improving patient outcomes, Aceso set out to use affordable IoT technologies and privacy-focused, non-intrusive AI to detect the early signs of dementia. Under his direction, the company merged health, data analytics, and user-centric design to tackle one of the most pressing medical challenges of our time. The team expanded to 22 with employees ranging from PhDs from UCL to Data Scientist from Cambridge and Oxford University after reviewing over 400 applications by hand and interviewing over 70 candidates as he believed that the IP of any company is not just the product or service they produce, but 'The Team'!

Realtime Cloud Migrations

Jeremy played a pivotal role consulting in the architecture and delivery of a complex, real-time cloud migration for one of the world’s top shipping and logistics company ($10B+ Revenues). The project involved modernizing and migrating mission-critical legacy systems, including IBM DB2 databases and Oracle mainframes, to modern cloud environments on both Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

This live migration was executed with a focus on maintaining business continuity, ensuring near-zero downtime despite the scale and complexity of the systems involved. The underlying infrastructure supported millions of daily transactions across more than 1,000s of database tables. These systems served hundreds of enterprise applications used both internally by staff and externally by global partners and customers, spanning operations in over 80 countries.

The initiative required advanced strategies for data replication including (Change Data Capture - CDC), real-time synchronization, phased cutovers, and deep integration between legacy workloads and cloud-native architectures. Jeremy worked closely with cross-functional teams across infrastructure, compliance, and application development to ensure that the migration met stringent operational and regulatory requirements.

With deep domain expertise in cloud migration, hybrid architecture, and data sovereignty, Jeremy has gained a nuanced understanding of the technological and organizational pain points that large enterprises face. His experience navigating regulatory complexity, minimizing risk, and delivering resilient architectures makes him a valuable voice in discussions around scalable cloud transformation, especially in industries where performance, security, and compliance are non-negotiable.

Epiphany

In his startup journey, Jeremy grew tired of watching large chunks of the budget swallowed by sky-high cloud costs, while also noticing that major cloud providers often failed to utilise compute resources efficiently. Beyond cost, he saw how compliance and data sovereignty were becoming critical concerns, especially for organisations handling sensitive or regulated workloads. He recognized the need for a drastic shift toward more sustainable, compliant, and cost-effective infrastructures. This led him to build a cloud platform entirely on Kubernetes, integrating on-prem solutions and niche infrastructure providers that take AI, GPU usage, and sustainability seriously. Anticipating a surge of AI-driven applications spurred by GenAI and AI Agents, he believed the future of applications had to be efficient, compliant, and environmentally centered.

He coined the project “stack8s” (short for “scaling application stacks on k8s”), reflecting its vision of scalability, sustainability, and intelligent resource management across infra providers, with kubernetes (k8s) as the control plane.

Today, as co-founder of stack8s, Jeremy continues to push boundaries in cloud, AI, and data innovation. Throughout his entrepreneurial journey, he has placed diversity at the center of his work philosophy: in addition to speaking Hindi fluently, he champions varied cultural and professional backgrounds as the catalyst for transformative ideas. Jeremy practises organic organizational structure, with no hirarchies within the company. Whether in the lab or the boardroom, Jeremy Murray proves that an engineer’s heart, a global perspective, and an unyielding passion for problem solving can drive breakthroughs across industries and borders.
